About the Author

From the preface and the very funny story with Richard Burton to the danger of being thrown in prison in Southern Sudan to the sadness of Princess Diana's death and taking a young Prince Harry to Botswana at the request of Prince Charles, this book has everything you would want from a travel memoir and more. A thoroughly enjoyable read and a must read for anyone who loves travel and recognises the true enlightenment that travel brings to our lives. Geoffrey Kent has had an amazing life and it is a privilege that he has chosen to share it all with us.

A fascinating and inspiring memoir!

Move over Jonathan Goldsmith, Geoffrey Kent may have just dethroned you as the most interesting man in the world (or more likely is the inspiration behind the Dos Equis character).

Geoffrey Kent, founder of Abercrombie & Kent ~ the premier luxury adventure travel company, has released his first memoir, Safari.
Geoffrey’s stories read like an Indiana Jones/Ernest Hemingway meets debonair James Bond meets Out of Africa manuscript. Queue opening scene in Kenya with Geoffrey at 16 years of age being the first individual to ride his motorcycle alone across the continent of Africa inspiring his sense of adventure to become the pioneer in luxury adventure travel. Include a supporting cast of characters such as Royal Families, Hollywood Elite, World Leaders and you have an inspirational and exciting storyline.

The stories are captivating and it’s hard to believe that this is not some fictional Hollywood character. What took me by surprise though, is Geoffrey Kent’s amazing instincts and entrepreneurial spirit. His ability to visualize unforeseeable opportunities is astounding. This is a great read for anyone seeking fascinating travel stories and the individual who is interested in entrepreneurial inspiration.

This book will inspire you to get off your tush and explore the world. I can almost hear Mr. Kent now “Stay thirsty my friends.”

About the Author

Alan Baddeley is Professor of Psychology at York University and one of the world's leading authorities on Human Memory. He is celebrated for devising the ground-breaking and highly influential working memory model with Graham Hitch in the early 1970s, a model which still proves valuable today in recognising the functions of short-term memory. He was awarded a CBE for his contributions to the study of memory, is a Fellow of the Royal Society, of the British Academy and of the Academy of Medical Sciences. In 2012 he was the recipient of the BPS Research Board's Lifetime Achievement Award recognising his outstanding record of personal achievements and significant contributions to the advancement of psychological knowledge.

Michael W. Eysenck is a Professorial Fellow at Roehampton University. He is also Emeritus Professor and Honorary Fellow at Royal Holloway University of London.�Within his research he has focused on various topics within memory research (e.g., levels of processing; distinctiveness). However, for many years his research has focused mainly on anxiety and cognition (including memory). He is the best-selling author of a number of textbooks including Cognitive Psychology: A Student's Handbook, 6th Edition (with Mark T. Keane) (2010), Fundamentals of Cognition, 2nd edition�(2012), Simply Psychology, 2nd edition (2013) and Fundamentals of Psychology (2009).

Michael C. Anderson was the director of the Memory Control Laboratory at the University of Oregon until 2007. He then moved to�the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, where he accepted a Chair in Cognitive Neuroscience, before finally moving to the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit in Cambridge, England in 2009.�Professor Anderson's research on memory control has been featured in Newsweek, US News and World Report, the New York Times, CNN, BBC World News, and the New Scientist.

and this book was very useful to me for that

I needed a quick overview of the state of memory research, and this book was very useful to me for that. I felt that it was more useful in the domains of working memory and episodic memory, and weakest in semantic memory, but reading the whole thing was definitely worthwhile.

Excellent, concise EE reference

It's been over 10 years since I completed my electrical engineering studies. I was looking for something that would help refresh my memory, and that I could refer to for formulas and graphs, as I jump back in to do my master's degree. This book seemed a little pricey, but compared to the other books out there, this one is the only thing I could find that met all my requirements: compact, sturdy, and thorough, covering all topics of electrical engineering, from analog to digital (I don't care so much about power systems, but that's in there too).

Formulas, graphs, and tables are all clearly laid out and easy to read/understand. No space is wasted with sample problems, which are best reserved for textbooks and test-prep books. Figures are used extensively to depict graphs, circuits, etc., which add nicely to the readability of the sections.

The book itself is nice and compact (the size of a medium sized paper back novel), and very well made. It appears to be a sewn book (same binding as for hardcover), and the cover is sturdy and vinyl coated.

I see that the earlier edition (Electrical Engineering) is available from Amazon for a discounted price. As far as I can tell (from comparing the table of contents and page numbers), the first 9 chapters are the same. The new edition adds one more chapter - Chapter 10: Electric Machines.

Like being in a 2 week long episode of Breaking Bad. I couldn't put it down.

One of the hardest things to do when trying to get a message across to an addict is to speak in a language they understand. This book seems to transcend conventional storytelling and speak straight to the addict. From the early pages the reader is put, quite literally, in the drivers seat. I have never read a book where I was so clearly convinced that I was a part of the story, and was so anxious to see what would happen next. The characters were so real I felt like all of my senses were stimulated every time I sat down to read a few more days of the story. I could practically hear the sounds of the street and smell the desperation. It will speak to you through the eyes of an addict, in a way that anyone can understand, but no one will be expecting. All throughout the story I found encouraging words of wisdom and hope that never come off as pushy, but rather show that there is another way, and an easier way to live. This story definitely took me down an exciting and enlightening path I wasn't expecting. I will absolutely recommend it to anyone who struggles with addiction, whether the addiction belongs to them or just someone they care about.

Let me start by saying that once I picked up this book, the only time I put it down was to go to sleep. The story that Mark tells is beyond suspenseful, terrifying, and brutally honest. It truly gives an accurate description into an addicts life and the grip that drugs have on a person. My heart pounded as I turned the pages, I often felt like I was in the car with them living this nightmare. Ride or die is a book that I will most definitely be recommending to my friends and family. If you are struggling to understand the mind of an addict, I truly think this book can help navigate what life is truly like for them and the daily demons they fight. This book is raw, be prepared for some graphic realities of an addicts life and the tragedy that consumes them. Amazing story of relentless hope and survival.

He has you feeling the painful symptoms of withdrawal from heroin

Mark’s book takes you on his chilling Road trip through hell with a killer by his side. Mark’s writing style is explicitly descriptive leading you with his words in such a way that you are feeling every emotion he is going through. He has you feeling the painful symptoms of withdrawal from heroin, feeling the throbbing pain in his infected leg, crying from the frustration of how to get out of his seemingly insurmountable and trapped situation. Mark will also have you smiling in spite of yourself with his sense of humor that comes out when you least expect it.
As Mark’s mother, I can tell you that Mark has turned his life around and is now welcomed back into the loving arms of his family. His life is now an inspiration through the sharing of his story so that others can overcome the steel grips of addiction. “As long as there is breath there is hope!
