About the Author
James W. Kalat is Professor Emeritus of Psychology at North Carolina State University, where he taught courses in introduction to psychology and biological psychology from 1977 through 2012. He received an AB degree summa cum laude from Duke University and a PhD in psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. He is also the author of INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGY (10th Edition) and co-author with Michelle Shiota of EMOTION (2nd Edition). In addition to textbooks, he has written journal articles on taste-aversion learning, the teaching of psychology, and other topics. He was twice the program chair for the annual convention of the American Psychological Society, now named the Association for Psychological Science.

Easy to Read

I bought this book for my bio. psych class. It is very user friendly and offers detailed images of neurons (both drawn and actual photographs). The information provided is easy to read, by that I mean the author has put it in terms where anyone can easily understand it. Overall a great book for beginning neuroscience.
BUYER BEWARE: Some sellers will send you the sample version! If this happens to you make sure to let the seller know! If the cover is taped up, make sure it does not day "Sample Copy"!

Hands down, the best biological psychology text available

WOW! This is an incredibly illustrated and beautifully laid out book. The information is fantastic. It is suitable for undergraduate level or early graduate level biological psychology--- its not so detailed that it becomes dry and boring, yet, not too simple that it does the same. Its extremely easy to learn from and very up to date. The author, Dr. Kalat, blends in a bit of humor and the most interesting current topics in neuroscience. I highly recommend this text for your course or for an interested enthusiast. You will not be disappointed!

The Paperback Edition is NOT THE FULL TEXT

This is not the complete text-you'll have to buy a separate access code for a digital edition of the full text. This edition is missing many chapters and is labeled on the front cover as being for Europe, Africa, and the Middle East only. Again, do not purchase this paperback edition-purchase the hardcover edition, the Kindle edition, or rent one of those two editions.
