Very good, but best used as a coffee-table book

There's quite a few negative reviews of this book on here that say "Don't buy this book because only 8-10 pages will actually pertain to you in particular." While this is true, I think this criticism is a bit narrow-minded. That's like saying a dictionary sucks because it "defines all these other words that you'll never ever have to look up in your entire life."
Part of the appeal of this book is that its information applies to everyone. If you want a book that only talks about you and your life, I'd suggest buying something else that only deals with your zodiac sign. The Secret Language of Destiny is meant more as a coffe-table book, something used to spark discussion between you and some friends. It's really fun to say to somebody, "Hey, here's what this book says about your destiny. Does any of this apply to your life?" Most of the time the karmic paths (which are base on birth date and year) are eerily accurate. I wouldn't say they're constantly dead-on, but I think that for most people there'll be enough similarities listed to at least get them thinking.
A good pick-up if you get a kick out of seeing if the personalities of your friends match up with the personality profiles of their zodiac signs.

ASTONISHINGLY ACCURATE.

My wife and I were AMAZED at the truths found in this book. For instance, I am a "Sagittarius II". Original, eccentric, kooky and eclectic. For years, in my youth, I sought acceptance by being a "people pleaser" type: I wanted to be accepted by "trying too hard". When I forgot about success & popularity (as the book states) in my late twenties, it suddenly found me, as if by magic! On a lighter note, because I am definitely an off-the-wall personality, I found life is much easier once I accepted this fact and by surrounding myself with friends who encourage/appreciate my zany/whacko way of seeing things. By letting go of our ego, our garden of positive thoughts, i.e. our REAL SELVES come into fruitation. Because we are all given particular gifts and idiosyncrasies, the book guides us all according to our own particular character traits! A bravura work. I agree with another reviewer in that these guys really ARE onto something!

All you ever have to know about your destiny!

This book drew me to it immediately since I have taken such intense interest in the previous books written by these authors. Each section of this book is broken down according to your date of birth (probably according to numerology). Each different section describes what "way" you are headed to; what direction your life is in and what challenges (external and internal) you must face. Then, each birthweek within those sections explains how your "way" works with your astrological decanate. As soon as you start to read about your main spiritual and/or mental goal in life, all the other details described hauntingly fall correctly into place. This book will help you to focus on your true path in life and key you into your personal attributes that work in your favor or are detrimental to your happiness. It has made me much more positive about where I am headed and allowed me to take pride in my misgivings and learn to deal with them without losing site of who I am supposed to be. A definite yes for anyone who needs a little boost in his/her positivity. I LOVE IT!

I was actually looking for a Woman Of Destiny bible when I ordered this book. It was only when I received the book that I realised that I had ordered the wrong book. Now I know it was one of those moments where God thought this was just what I needed right now and as usual He was right. Loved the book from the moment I started to read it answerred alot of my unasked questions that I had been thinking about,(He knows our thoughts before we do) I just keep rereading it, it was surely the book for this time in my life right now. Thanks Cindy Jacobs for your simplicity and honesty.

"WOMEN of DESTINY" by Cindy Jacobs
Disregard that this review is by the writers' father-in-law. This is a book that was a long time coming and covering a subject long over due. Not only should every woman read this, but men as well. I just couldn't put it down once I started reading.
Influence comes to our people in many ways and this book is one. As part of our sense of shared humanity, we instinctively try to motivate one another in hopes that the attempt will result in a blessing. All women won't be happy with this book and many men will blush with shame as they read this Bible based story.
I have known this author for over twenty-five years, read her first two books and am convinced that this is the best of the three.
Some people have the innate ability to lift our spirits, elevate our thoughts, instill in us a desire to reach new heights. Cindy Jacobs is one of those people. In my day, this was called leadership.
As you read how Christians climb the latter to the top, one rung at a time, you may see yourself in some of Cindy's trials and errors. By all means, read and enjoy.

A lot of information but presented in a very uninteresting manner

It is a book that discusses a lot of things about the human body. I read the part about the nervous system more extensively, since I was preparing for a lecture on the significant areas of the brains and CNS. It gives a significant amount of information but unfortunately it fails (miserably) to give the importance and significance of all the information being given. If a student were to read the book, I am sure these information will not be remembered. Another thing, the manner on how the book was written leaves a lot to be desired. The topics were not presented in an interesting way so a student trying to go through the text will definitely need to find a way to harness his concentration and desire to learn to finish his assigned reading.

A fine text for medical school. However it has way too much detail for a primary text source. Good for referencing topics that need more flushing out. I would recommend this as a supplement to Costanzo's Physiology, but ONLY if you find that Costanzo is missing details you want.

don't get it digital

I got the Kindle version for my smart phone and several figures are missing. Not to mention there is little to go off of for when a figure or side bar comment is progressing and when it has switch back to the main text. I do like the search feature.

Good addition to the new canon

This arch greatly enriches the subtext of the existing Skywalker story. While paralleling the events in the main Star Wars comic series, Darth Vader explores his roll in the Empire and sets about a journey to ensure his position within it. Excellent read, great illustrations, clever reintroduction to classic characters, and memorable new ones are all reasons why I'm on my 3rd reading within almost a week.

Among the best loved of modern psychoanalysts and perhaps most accessible of Britain's object relations school was Winnicott, a pediatrician turned psychoanalyst. The pieces in this collection (most previously unpublished and derived from talks to nonpsychiatrists) illustrate the scope of his concerns, the simplicity of his ideas about complex matters, and his inspired metaphorical linking of concepts. The essays range widelyfrom the healthy individual and family to a lovely piece on the "value of depression" and to some of his more basic concepts about the false self and the transitional object. The absence of jargon makes this work particularly inviting for laypersons. More informed readers may object to the lack of scholarly notes and to some of more "creative" intuitive leaps, but will soon be drawn in by Winnicott's many profound insights. Papers of a great humane thinker

These essays were collected and published posthumously, by Winnicott's widow, Clare, and colleagues. British pediatrician, humanitarian, and ground-breaking psychoanalyst Donald Winnicott died in 1971, having made a nearly immeasurable contribution to the fields of psychoanalysis and child psychology. In this volume, as with his other writings, his ideas are deep, reverential and respectful, and often somewhat complex, and at the same time, his presentation is utterly simple and straightforward. The reader is fully engaged, as a result of Winnicott's incredible knack for connecting with his audience.
The lively and interesting papers comprising this utterly accessible collection were written over a wide span of time - three decades or more. The selections are varied, and have been separated for readerly convenience into several sections: "Health and Illness," "The Family," and, finally, "Reflections on Society." Some were written in order to be presented at meetings of the medical and/or psychoanalytic community; others, to various civic, political, and other groups (The Progressive League, The Liberal Magazine, The Borstal Assistant Governors' Conference, etc.)
The collection is various and interesting for its content but also for - not in spite of - its grab-bag feel. Winnicott was comfortable with his listeners, and never afraid to speak simply, clearly, and with his trademark empathy intact. In fact, that empathy was at the core of his work. There's a great variety in it, too. "The Price of Disregarding Psychoanalytic Research," a talk given in 1965, details the importance of his philosophy. ("The link between poetic truth and scientific truth is surely in the person, in you and me.") Essays such as the 1963 "The Value of Depression" ("Always, depression implies ego strength...") and the 1967 "Delinquency as a Sign of Hope" ("the antisocial tendency is linked inherently with deprivation" ) show Winnicott at his very best. And the playful and kind 1969 "The Pill and the Moon" - written for an address to the Progressive League in the 1960's - is wonderful.
Some of these hopeful and kindhearted essays show their age, but in a welcome and lovely way, and therefore each is well worth reading and thinking about.

Barry H. Kantowitz is Professor Emeritus of Psychology, Professor Emeritus of Industrial and Operational Engineering, and former Director of the Transportation Research Institute at the University of Michigan. Prior to that, he was Chief Scientist of the Human Factors Transportation Center of the Battelle Memorial Institute in Seattle. He received his Ph.D. in experimental psychology from the University of Wisconsin in 1969. He has written and edited more than two dozen books. His research on human attention, mental workload, reaction time, human-machine interaction, and transportation human factors has been supported by the Office of Education, the National Institute of Mental Health, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, NHTSA, and FHWA.

McDonnell University Professor of Psychology and Dean of Academic Planning in Arts and Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, where he has taught since 1996. He received a B.A. in psychology from Washington and Lee University and a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from Yale University. He has taught at Rice University, Purdue University, and the University of Toronto. His research interests lie in cognitive psychology, particularly in human learning and memory. Dr. Roediger has published more than 250 articles and chapters and has authored or edited 10 other books, including RESEARCH METHODS IN PSYCHOLOGY, 9th Edition (Cengage, 2012).

David G. Elmes is Professor Emeritus of Psychology at Washington and Lee University, where he taught for forty years. He earned his B.A. with high honors from the University of Virginia and completed the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in psychology there. Dr. Elmes was an adjunct professor at Hampden-Sydney College, a research associate for a year in the Human Performance Center of the University of Michigan, and a Visiting Fellow of University College at the University of Oxford. At Washington and Lee, he co-directed the Cognitive Science Program and chaired the Department of Psychology for ten years. Professor Elmes edited READINGS IN EXPERIMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY and DIRECTORY OF RESEARCH IN PSYCHOLOGY AT PRIMARILY UNDERGRADUATE INSTITUTIONS, and is coauthor of RESEARCH METHODS IN PSYCHOLOGY (Cengage, 2012, with B. H. Kantowitz and H. L. Roediger III).

Very Detailed, Good for Serious Psychology Students

I appreciated how thorough this text was when learning experimental psychology. It is somewhat dense if you are looking for an engaging text for your undergraduate students, but it is great for those who are serious about learning, and plan to do psychology research.

This text is rather dry and lacks illustrations. It was required for my experimental psyche class, but I would have preferred a different text book. The product I received, however, arrived as described.
